DINING WITH THE STARS
Which chefs would you pair as a dream team? We were invited to a house party hosted by Jack and Anna Gordon at their home, the historical Bond Force House in Roseland. This gorgeous venue is where two of our favorite New Jersey “star” chefs, Zod Arifai owner of Blu and Next Door in Montclair and Francesco Palmieri owner of The Orange Squirrel in Bloomfield wowed us with their culinary skills. Two different personalities and two different cooking styles equaled one extraordinary evening of outstanding food and wine. Here is the menu that they served along with the drop-dead, OMG wines supplied by Jack Gordon and his friends, all of whom are serious wine collectors:
A few of the wines served at Jack and Anna Gordon’s BBQ.
Oysters with spinach cream and pancetta dust and duck wings
(2010 Pepiere Muscadet de Sevre et Maine Clisson)
Fresh jumbo grilled Florida shrimp
(2002 Denis Mortet Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques)
Grilled Maine lobster
(1995 Veuve Cliquot Grande Dame)
Roasted Foie Gras with apricots in a Bas Armagnac reduction
(1990 Chateau d’Yquem)
28 day dry-aged prime rib eye
(1988 and 1989 Gaja Sperss; 1999 Conterno Granbussia; and 2005 Soldera)
Cheese Course
(1982 Margaux and 1990 Montrose)
Citrus parfait with grilled peach
(2005 Chateau Rieussec)
Sides of heirloom lettuce salad, fried zucchini blossoms, grilled corn, roasted portobello mushrooms, grilled asparagus and grilled potatoes.
It was no surprise that the culinary stars were in alignment. Kudos to two of New Jersey’s finest and to the Gordons’ for hosting such a memorable evening.
Mushrooms and asparagus.
Potatoes with rosemary.
