For a fabulous July 4th celebration that doesn’t cost a fortune, head to Long Branch for the 19th Annual Oceanfest, the annual Independence Day celebration held on the oceanfront Promenade.  The event will be held Saturday, July 4 from 10 am to 10 pm, rain or shine.  Oceanfest is a free, family-friendly celebration that takes place along the half-mile stretch of the oceanfront Promenade between Seven Presidents Park, the Ocean Place Resort & Spa and is adjacent to Pier Village.  Oceanfest offers something for young and old alike, and attracts residents and visitors from far and wide.  Co-hosted by the City of Long Branch and the Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce, the Oceanfest finale features the Jersey Shore’s biggest fireworks display at 9:00 pm.

Aside from enjoying the beauty and relaxation of the beach, there is a lot to entertain visitors to Oceanfest.  Marvel as master sand sculptors create one of a kind exhibits that can be viewed from the Promenade; watch circus-like performers and magicians entertain right in front of you while children enjoy games, face painters and balloon artists.  Live musical entertainment throughout the event will have attendees groovin’ to varied musical genres.  As always, there will be lots of tasty treats to savor from food vendors serving up a multitude of dishes.  For basketball enthusiasts looking for a little competitive action, the Long Branch Department of Recreation will hold their annual 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament in the southern most parking lot at the Ocean Place Resort.  The tournament is limited to 16 teams and starts at 10:00 a.m.  According to Shannon Bruno, Recreation Supervisor, the tournament is a popular Oceanfest activity and she recommends teams register in advance.  If there are any open slots in the tournament, registration will be open that morning at 9:00 a.m.  The winning team will receive a trophy, basketballs and a gift certificate to local establishments.  Those interested in participating can contact the Recreation Department at 732-571-6545 to register.  The fun-filled day is a lively prelude to the evening’s spectacular fireworks finale, which starts at 9:00 p.m.

Oceanfest is supported and sponsored in part by the City of Long Branch, Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce, Ocean Place Resort & Spa, AJD Construction, Pier Village, Monmouth Medical Center, Monmouth Park Racetrack, Monmouth University, New Jersey Monthly magazine, Monmouth Health & Life magazine, Allen Consulting, Inc., and radio stations 94.3 The Point, WJLK-FM and WADB-AM.
