The Celebrity Golf Classic takes place at Newark’s Weequahic Park Golf Club. The course features 5,579 yards of challenging golf from the longest tees for a par of 70. The course rating is 66.3 and it has a slope rating of 108 on Rye grass. The golf classic is set to be a fun and successful day for everyone, including the Celebrities. Immediately following the touranament will be the Golf Classic Awards at Weequahic Parks Golf Club with remarks by Newark Mayor Cory Booker.Confirmed guests include Lance Smith, Walter Briggs, Dwight Hicks, Harry Carson from the NFL, Kurt Thomas, Eric Williams, Norm Nixon, Navarrow Wright, CEO & President of Global Grind, Greg Anthony, Brevin Knight, Brandon Knight, Ira Bowman, Steffond Johnson, Randy Smith from the NBA, Actors Brian White (“Stomp The Yard”) and Michael Kenneth Smith (HBO’s Hit Show “The Wire”), Power 105.1 FM Radio Personality Ed Lover, Publisher Karen Hunter, “Pepa” of the legendary group Salt -n- Pepa, Def Jam Comedy Artist Queen Aishah, Hip Hop Artists Bun B and Loose Cannon, Tammy Hammond, and many more. Proceeds from the golf classic will go towards Newark Youth Golf, Inc.As a community based organization, risk prevention program NYG uses the fundamentals of golf to remove barriers that would otherwise prohibit these children from participating in a sport that can bring a lifetime of joy and opportunity. Exposure to golf provides participants additional individual skill building better self-esteem, etiquettes, discipline, honor, integrity, broader job opportunities, golf history and simple fun.
