MetroMan Triathlon

Racing begins at 6:30 a.m on Sunday morning. The awards ceremony is set for 10:30 a.m., at the open-air Beach Bar, on the south side of Convention Hall.

The MetroMan Triathlon sponsored by NY Life, comes to Asbury Park on July 13, 2008. Multi-sport athletes possessing fitness and technical skill can compete in the Intermediate Triathlon's 1500 meter ocean swim, 30 kilometer bike race and 10K run or enter the Sprint Triathlon that entails a 500 meter ocean swim, 15K bike race and 5K run. Both distances are USA Triathlon sanctioned events. The bike course is a high intensity criterium or "crit" style race around three lakes and along the famous Asbury Park boardwalk. The running course goes up and down the boardwalk and through the Grand Arcade between Convention Hall and the Paramount Theatre. As an added incentive to the athletes, there will be a cash purse for the first three finishers in the intermediate distance event.
One of the fierce triathletes competing in the MetroMan will be DonnaLyn Giegerich, a Monmouth County businesswoman and community organization volunteer. Less than two years ago Ms. Giegerich was diagnosed with a rare cancer, leiomyosarcoma. A dynamic and constant community volunteer before her illness, DonnaLyn has broadened her efforts to help others, as a result of her experience. "Helping others manage through the process has been a great assist in managing my own situation. I am truly blessed be able to pay it all forward."
The DonnaLyn Giegerich Leiomyosarcoma Research Fund is a primary beneficiary of the MetroMan Triathlon.
An Expo in the Grand Arcade between the Paramount Theatre and Convention Hall, on Saturday, July 12th from 4 to 8 p.m., will offer registering athletes and the public fitness and racing information and will include exciting offerings from vendors. Spectators will enjoy fast paced excitement of the triathlon events.
