Burger Deluxe
1420 Route 23 North, Wayne
973-305-0033

Hours: Sun-Thurs, 11 am-10 pm; Fri-Sat, 11 am-11 pm.

Price: $

Style: Family-friendly upscale diner with cheery retro décor.

Don’t Miss: While the menu is wide-ranging, this place is all about the burgers. There are fourteen different half-pound black Angus beef burgers, from the classic ($7.95) to variations such as the Margherita burger (topped with marinated tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and Parmesan; $9.50) and the chili burger (with beef chili and cheddar; $9.25). There are also ten non-beef burgers, from the spiced-up Southwest turkey burger ($9.25) to burgers made of salmon, chicken, lamb, or meatloaf—even sashimi-grade tuna ($13.50). All are served on a toasted bun (or whole-grain bun for an additional 99 cents) with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and fries. Don’t want the basic fries? There’s no charge to substitute delicious mashed potatoes, a roasted potato medley, or sweet-potato fries. As for the rest of the menu, starters include the expected assortment, such as nachos ($8.95), crispy calamari with marinara sauce (8.75), and a generous hummus plate with grilled pita ($6.25). There are seven salad choices, various house-made soups, and an ample list of sandwiches and wraps, including a shrimp-and-crab sandwich on seven-grain bread with Old Bay seasoning ($10.95). There are always numerous dinner entrées to choose from, including nightly specials and menu regulars like skillet mac & cheese ($9.95) and grilled hanger steak ($14.95). Wash it all down with a Boylan’s soda ($2.75) or the refreshing fresh-squeezed lemonade or watermelonade ($4.50). Since BD is basically a Greek diner at heart, it’s no surprise to find fresh-baked baklava on the dessert counter; order it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream ($4.95).

Heads Up: The exceptional children’s menu has ten selections, from burger and fries ($5.95) to grilled salmon with steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes ($7.25).

The Scoop: Burger Deluxe is one of six eating establishments owned by the Livanos family, including Molyvos, the celebrated Greek restaurant on the West Side of Manhattan.
