Hours: Dinner, Tues–Sat (no set hours). Family-style dinners to go, Tues–Thurs, starting around 4:45 pm.
Price: $$/$$$
Style: Nestled in an old diner with a barrel ceiling and crimson walls, this homey spot is warmed by a petite fireplace. Tunes by Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, and other legends create a sophisticated ambience. BYO.
Don’t Miss: Sliced baked brie topped with walnuts and brown sugar, with apple slices on the side—a perfect combination of flavors and textures ($8.95). Spinach and red-leaf salad is topped with green and red grapes, pine nuts, dried apricots, and raisins in a citrus dressing ($8.25). Popular entrées include filet mignon with sweet potato and carrot purée, as well as green beans with bacon and shallots ($26.95); and grilled pork chop with apple-raisin sauce and wild rice ($24.95). Warm apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream is a great take on an old favorite ($6). Tuesday through Thursday nights, family-style dinners to go, such as London broil, come with salads, sides, and dessert ($55), and feed four to six people.
Heads Up: With only eight tables, reservations are recommended. The family to-go menu changes daily, so check the website and order ahead.
The Scoop: Karen Hayes, daughter of a Staten Island restaurateur, runs the kitchen while her husband, Tim, keeps the front of the house running smoothly. Karen usually stops by the tables to see how guests are doing. The couple’s four sons, ages nine to seventeen, pitch in. The restaurant opened in December and has been busy ever since.
