Free to Breathe Walk

September 25. The National Lung Cancer Partnership is the only organization founded by physicians and researchers to increase lung-cancer awareness and research funding. While more than 219,000 people are diagnosed with lung cancer in the United States each year, low survival rates and the perception that the disease is self-inflicted leave research drastically underfunded. The NLCP’s mission includes publicizing statistics that are often overlooked: Not only is lung cancer the leading cancer among Americans, but it also kills more people than breast, prostate, and colon cancers combined. The Free to Breathe series is the NLCP’s leading fundraiser, and this is its first year in Morris County. (908-656-3947; freetobreathe.org)
