
With a passion for hair, a drive to write, and an endearing Scottish accent, 65-year-old Libby Christensen is becoming a Garden State celebrity.

In “Neptune City,” the title track from her debut album, Nicole Atkins pays homage to her hometown (not far from Bruce Springsteen’s old stomping ground) with the same level of bittersweet nostalgia as the Boss’s “Glory Days,” singing “I’m sitting over Neptune City/I used to love it/It used to be pretty/I’ll come down, walk around a while/Until I’m sure I can never go home again.”

For her first book, Jen A. Miller did not have to look too far for inspiration. “The Jersey Shore: Atlantic City to Cape May” is filled with tips on dining, lodging, recreation, and shopping right in the Belmar native’s backyard.

For Rumson resident Chelsea Palermo, jazz is all about love. She became smitten with jazz as a young girl. “I could sing just about before I could talk,” says 22-year-old Palermo. “I remember sitting in my grandmother’s Mustang at about five years old, when a Louie Armstrong song came on and I started scatting along with the record. My family was really surprised.”
