For many book lovers, there’s nothing like a good old-fashioned bound-paper volume. But finding new homes for books that pile up can be difficult in our digital age.
Thankfully, two local organizations accept donations of used books, with proceeds going to worthy causes.
The College Women’s Club of Montclair (26 Park Street, Montclair) is a 501c3 nonprofit that collects used books, audiobooks, CDs, and even sheet music. Volunteers organize thousands of items for two sales each year, one in spring and one in fall. Proceeds go to scholarships for young women with financial need. Donations for the fall sale are accepted on select Saturdays through the end of August.
The Book Barn (18 Pocono Road, Denville), also a 501c3, takes donations of adult, teen and children’s books, puzzles, toys, clothing and media items. All workers are volunteers and proceeds are donated to local charities. Check the Book Barn’s website for updates on hours (currently Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday) and other information.
Other options include the Salvation Army, Goodwill, a local library hosting a book sale, or donating a couple of volumes to a nearby Little Free Library.
