Bar Americana, which opened in March, is a casual restaurant offering indoor and outdoor dining, TV’s set to sports stations and a family friendly menu. Located across from the Cranford train station the restaurant also has private parking.

Two apps were shared by four people. A delightful combination of sautéed Brussels sprouts with chorizo and caramelized onions was served with four rafts of herbed bread which we used to mop up a flavorful tomato sauce. Salt and pepper crusted calamari with a spicy marinara sauce were crispy and a “I bet you can’t eat just one” dish.

A Berkshire pork chop came with chorizo, mushrooms, peppers and a mound of rice pilaf; pan roasted salmon sat on a pool of lemon herb crème fraiche and was surrounded with a zucchini, squash, cauliflower and mushroom medley; and shrimp scampi with capellini had sundried tomatoes, lemon and garlic sauce. All were good and ample portions. While tasty, the bacon, sunny side up egg and American cheese, eight-ounce burger made with ground sirloin, brisket and short rib, was overcooked and not served medium as requested. However, the mound of sweet potato fries abutting the burger were gobbled up. Some other main dishes on the menu included half chicken, fish n’ chips or braised short ribs. If you want a lighter meal, tacos, sandwiches, salads and burgers are available.

We bypassed the desserts (cheesecake, Key lime pie, Granny apple crisp, brownie sundae and a sea salt caramel cheesecake sundae) as we were told that they were not made in house.

Many mojitos are on the cocktail list as well as martinis, beers and red and white wines. Open Monday through Thursday from 3 PM, Friday through Sunday from 11 AM.
