Looking for a quick bite? 900 Degree Wood Fired Pizza Eatery is offering inventive pizzas, apps, pasta and entrees as well as specials (written with their prices). A patio and the fact that they are open daily for lunch and dinner add to the appeal, especially on a Monday night when many food establishments are closed.
900 DEGREE PIZZA, TOWACO
Some of the unusual pizza options include: honey pie with local honey, calabrese peppers, mozzarella, balsamic, olive oil and Parmigiano-Reggiano; BBQ pulled pork with house-smoked mozzarella, coleslaw and tri-color pea potato chips; and shrimp scampi. We opted for a Margherita pizza, which arrived steaming hot with the additional topping of melon-ball-sized meatballs. Their web page states that the dough is fermented for 72 hours, and while the toppings were tasty, we would have preferred if the crust had more of a blistering char. A we-have-not-seen-this-before salad of wood-fired asparagus with cannelloni beans over arugula dressed with aged balsamic vinegar was innovative but served hot. We may have enjoyed it more at room temperature or chilled. Cavatelli listed as “cavatelli with pot cheese,” actually came with ricotta cheese creating a creamy dish. We bypassed the Nutella pizza for dessert and shared a tartufo from Nasto’s that was served sliced and sitting on top of a raft of whipped cream.
