A Host of New Global Eateries

Openings in Jersey City, Wallington and Newark.

New Jersey’s cities continue to see new restaurants coming to their downtown streets—including eateries with exciting ethnic accents.

For example, in vibrant Jersey City, the Biryani Bar has opened at 769 Newark Avenue (201-499-0158). The Indian spot, which is open for lunch and dinner, is a BYO that joins dozens of restaurants in this city that specialize in the foods of South Asia.

Elsewhere in Jersey City: Cafe Madeleine, to be located at 34 Coles Street (201-499-3691), is in the planning stages. It will serve French cuisine.

Also in the works:

Jersey Gyro, 133 Main Avenue in Wallington. Lunch and dinner. 201-520-3788.

Genesis Luncheonette, 383 Bloomfield Avenue in Newark. 973-482-7712.

The Lounge, 492 Springfield Avenue in Newark. 973-622-2738.

K-Pot Korean Hot Pot & Barbecue, 300 Route 18 in East Brunswick. As its name indicates, both hot pots and Korean barbecue will be served at lunch and dinner at this new location of a national chain. 732-210-2704.

Update:

At the Red Store, 101 Navesink Avenue in Middletown, recently purchased by Nicholas and Melissa Harary of Restaurant Nicholas, Michael Metzner, the restaurant’s chef de cuisine, will be in charge of the fare.
