Café Madeleine Opens in Jersey City

Plus: Other eateries are in the works in Hoboken, Morristown and Clark.

A note mysteriously pinned on the door announced that Café Madeleine in Jersey City would finally, casually open its doors at 8pm on Monday, July 2, and it looks like the note was legit. One among a few recent café-style openings in Jersey City, Madeleine is now serving at the corner of Coles and Second, with a casual French vibe and a menu to match, with coffee, pastries, and breakfast and lunch menus studded with simple classics of Gallic gastronomy (Quiche Lorraine, Croque Monsieur, Salade Nicoise, etc.) No website or phone number yet. 34 Cole Street, Jersey City

In the Works:

*Ohio-based Restore Cold Pressed Juices is set to open its second New Jersey location in Hoboken (the first spot is open at 6120 Town Center Way in Livingston). The Hoboken menu should be similar to Restore’s core menu, which was originally developed with input from raw food chefs and teems with redemptive ingredients like dragonfruit, acai, oats, and coconut milk. Expect cold pressed juices with names like Detox and Immunity, “superfood” smoothies, customizable cleanses, and 2018’s fast-casual health food darling, the acai bowl. Slated to open sometime in July. 305 1st Street, Hoboken; 973-758-8943

*Also opening soon in Hoboken, G. Millz Boken Roadhouse, a brick bar with what’s presumably a tongue-in-cheek “tough” vibe set to open sometime in July on Jackson Street. The website is live, though not much else is known beyond the fact that they’re hiring cooking staff in addition to bartenders, so expect some grub to supplement beer and cocktails when it does open. 61 Jackson Street, Hoboken; 201-937-8102

*The 20-odd-year home of Anthony’s Pizza and Pasta on the Green in Morristown has been closed for months, and in its place the fourth incarnation of Sam Bek’s Fiamma Wood-Fired Pizza is underway. Bek began his New Jersey Neopolitan mini-empire in Millburn in 2014, updating the fast-casual pizza model with things like house-made burrata and ovens imported from Napoli that are stoked with red oak wood to a constant 900 degree burn. Montclair and Westfield locations followed. The Morristown spot on Park Place is next to Inspiration Roll and looks out on the green. It’s set to open any day. 47 S. Park Place, Morristown

*Duck Donuts, an increasingly nationwide but East Coast-heavy “make-your-own” chain, already has spots in Avalon, Middletown, and Marlton. But fortunately for choosy donut lovers in the Garden State, two new Ducks are underway: a franchise in Clark set to open soon and rumors of a possible Hackensack location. As usual, there will be featured donuts on the menu, but, again as usual, most patrons will be coming for the DIY option where you can choose a coating, topping and a drizzle. Bacon is indeed an option. The Clark Duck Donuts location should open by August 1. 77 Central Avenue, Clark
