What can you do deep in the heart of winter in New Jersey?

Get acquainted with the wines of the Garden State.

The weekend of Saturday, February 24 (from noon to 6 pm) and Sunday, February 25 (from noon to 4 pm) will see more than 150 New Jersey wines poured at the Jersey Shore Wine Festival. It will take place at The Tropicana, 2831 Boardwalk in Atlantic City.

Wines from 10 Garden State winemakers will be the focus of the event. On tap will be wines from Cava Winery and Vineyard, Plagido’s Winery, Sharrott Winery, Southwind Vineyard & Winery, Tomasello Winery, Valenzano Winery, DiMatteo Vineyards, Villari Vineyards and Wagonhouse Winery.

In addition, there will be food, entertainment and wine seminars.

Admission is restricted to those 21 and older, with valid ID. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door; they are available for purchase at the Tropicana Box Office and via Ticketmaster at ticketmaster.com. Designated-driver tickets, at $10, will be available at the door.

Then Food Business Boot Camp, a full-day seminar planned for Saturday, February 24 may interest you.

Organized by Hudson Kitchen, it will take place from 9 am to 4 pm at the Culinary Arts Institute at Hudson County Community College at 161 Newkirk Street in Jersey City.

The boot camp will offer seminars and workshops that focus on operating a culinary business, including food trends, business-plan basics, food safety, food-product concept development, food law, marketing a food business, pricing food products for profitability, food business operations, and funding a food business.
