Openings and Closings

Read about Burger Walla, a burger joint with a twist that has opened in Newark, plus other restaurant openings and closings in New Jersey.

BURGER WALLA, NEWARK
Halsey Street has just gotten spicier with the opening of Burger Walla, 47 Halsey St, Newark (862-259-2552). This burger joint with a twist has a comprehensive menu that blends the hamburger, an American staple, with the enticing accouterments of Indian cuisine. Patrons can choose from burgers such as beef, chicken infused with cilantro chutney, lamb infused with mint chutney, veggie with masala spices, and shrimp. Toppings include cheese, a variety of chiles and sauces such as “Walla” sauce, Masala ketchup and much more. Try the hand-cut and double-fried fries or the curried cauliflower and chickpeas that are oven roasted with onions and spices and pan fried to order. An arugula and spinach salad is available for those who want something simpler, as are hot dogs, wings (Buffalo, sweet mango tamarind style or vindaloo) and samosas. Don’t fill up as sweet parathas with a variety of toppings like cookies and homemade desserts are available. If you find another “Indian burger” restaurant, outside of India, let me know.
