Most days after school lets out, you’ll likely find Verona middle schoolers walking to the nearby Walgreens to stock up on candy. However, since early September, there’s a candy shop in town that may become the new spot for those kids.
TweedleTee’s Candies & Curiosities is a passion project from Tanya Tauthong-Kass, a longtime fashion stylist and mother of two middle school-aged (and candy-obsessed) daughters. After noticing the Walgreens candy craze firsthand on two different occasions and having some time out of work because of two injuries, she decided to put her energy into opening a candy store.
The Alice in Wonderland-themed store, which Tauthong-Kass designed and her brother, a local contractor, built, offers a variety of candies from different distributors, including Royal Wholesale in Mount Laurel. “I just wanted to be a place where everyone can come and know they’re going to find something, whether it’s nostalgic candy or it’s the most sour candy one can find on the market,” she says.
To gauge what candy the people in town most enjoy, Tauthong-Kass and her daughters interviewed friends and shared candy samples, taking everyone’s thoughts into consideration.
Trendy freeze-dried candies, super-sour bites, classics like Jolly Ranchers and Nerds Ropes, and even a selection of dye-free, healthier candies are just some of the sweets you’ll find here. Also expect some gift items like greeting cards, candles and stationery from women-owned businesses.
