We're loving comforting Italian classics in Little Falls and Bloomfield, the many options at Eataly in Short Hills, and fuel from an arts venue's eatery/bar in Newark.

The editors at New Jersey Monthly do a lot of eating and drinking around the Garden State. We’re always trying new restaurants and bars, revisiting old-school favorites and tasting Jersey-produced products.

So, each month we round up some of our favorite recent meals, dishes, cocktails and items made right here in New Jersey. Here’s what we’re loving right now.

Comforting Italian classics at Popolari in Little Falls, Bloomfield

When Popolari opened in Bloomfield in 2021, it was a welcome addition to the town’s restaurant scene, bringing Neapolitan thin-crust pizzas, house-made pastas and inspired sandwiches. Now, a 40-seat sister property has opened its doors in Little Falls, dishing out the same Italian comfort classics and fresh innovations. Takeout and catering services are also offered. —Deborah P. Lunch, dinner, dessert and more at Eataly, Mall at Short Hills

It’s evident the moment you walk into Eataly that the place has already become a popular foodie destination for New Jerseyans. Located at the Mall at Short Hills, it’s been consistently hopping, and for good reason. Order pizza and sandwiches at the counter for a quick bite, or have a sit-down lunch or dinner at the restaurant, Eataly Ristorante, where you can order antipasti, salads, pasta, pizza, main courses and more. Wine is also available here. Don’t forget to order the signature tiramisu for dessert. —Jacqueline Mroz

Drinks and bites at NICO Kitchen + Bar, NJPAC in Newark

If you’re going to a show at NJPAC in Newark and want to grab a drink or a bite beforehand, check out NICO Kitchen + Bar, located just inside the building that houses the performance venue. The sleek bar and bistro offer high-end Italian shared plates, cocktails and wine. There are comfy couches and chairs in the bar, and the dinner menu has something for everyone, including warm buttermilk biscuits and hot honey wings. There’s even a kids’ menu. —J. Mroz
