Mark Your Calendar for These 5K Races in May

Lace up your sneaks and grab a water bottle!

Go the distance—well, 3.1 miles (5 kilometers)—at spring races around the state. Whether you’re in it to win it or just jogging for fun, these trots—some with food, wine and costume contests—offer something at everyone’s speed.

Cinco de Drinko 5K

May 4: Eat tacos and sip margaritas in celebration of Cinco de Mayo when this 21-and-older race ends.
Maria Barnaby Greenwald Park, Haddonfield. 9 am; $40

Sandy Hook Lighthouse 5K 

May 4: Support the New Jersey Blind Citizens Association.
Sandy Hook Lighthouse. 9:30-11 am; $10-$30

6th Annual Freedom House 5K Run/Walk

May 11: The event helps fund the nonprofit’s addiction services for men and women with substance-use disorders.
Duke Island Park, Bridgewater. 9:30 am; $140-$35

Grape Gallop

May 11: Dash, then drink. What could be better than a 5K run or 2-mile walk followed by wine? Take a scenic tour of the vineyards while getting in your steps.
Alba Vineyard, Milford. 10 am; $50-$65, wine tasting and race; $35-$45, race only

CASA Kids Superhero 5K Run

May 11: A 5K and family fun run/walk benefitting Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children of Mercer and Burlington counties.
Princeton Pike Corporate Center, Lawrenceville. 9 am; $25

New Jersey Caterpillar 5k Run

May 11: Support the Fibromyalgia Care Society of America. Family events include face painting, balloon animals, a photo booth, treats and music.
Branch Brook Park, Newark. 9 am; $25 

The Great Cape May Foot Race

May 11: Awards ceremony as well as food and drink specials at Carney’s to follow.
Perry Street and Beach Ave. 8 am; $45-$55

Girls on the Run New Jersey North 5K

May 11: Benefits Girls on the Run, an organization offering programs for girls in grades 3-8.
White Deer Plaza, Sparta. 8 am; $35-$40

Get LBI Running 2019

May 18: All proceeds benefit the Surf City Volunteer Fire & EMS.
8th Street and Long Beach Blvd, Surf City. 9 am; $35

Spring Stampede 5K & Fun Run

May 18: Dress wacky and bring a towel to this run exploding with colorful fun. Chester teachers blast competitors with colored powder. Sunglasses provided.
Gazebo at Municipal Field, Chester. 8 am; $20-$25

Totally Awesome 80’s Run

May 23: All participants receive a pair of 80s shades. Contests for best dressed, best team and fastest Rubik’s Cube. Post-run party at Landmark Americana with one complimentary drink.
Glassboro. 6:30 pm; $10-$35

Fleet Week 5K

May 26: Run with active duty military personnel during a 5K or 1-mile fun run. At the finish line, the U.S. Navy will have military air displays, a dive tank and various military vehicles.
250 Audrey Zapp Road, Liberty State Park, Jersey City (north field). Fun run, 10:30 am; 5K, 11 am; $12-$40

Stone Harbor Turtle Trot 5 K & 2-Mile Fun Walk

May 26: Come out of your shell and join the 20th annual event. The name of the race is inspired by the Diamondback Terrapins that will be crossing Stone Harbor roads in search of an area to nest. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Diamond Terrapin Program at The Wetlands Institute.

May 26: A 5K run and 1-mile walk to honor our nation’s veterans.

Run the Vineyards—Taste of Tuscany 5K

May 26: Enjoy a glass of wine, food vendors, live music and an awards ceremony.
Hopewell Valley Vineyards, Pennington. 9 am; $44
