As of March 16, Governor Phil Murphy suspended operation of indoor shopping malls, casinos, racetracks, gyms, fitness centers, movie theaters, performing arts center, nightclubs and other concert and entertainment centers. While some businesses have since been permitted to open, many festivals have been canceled.
Here, an updated list of canceled and postponed events in NJ due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Festivals
The Montclair Film Festival, originally scheduled for May 1-10, is rescheduled to October 16–25 and will feature drive-in and virtual screenings, as well as special events and conversations.
The Red Bank Guinness Oyster Festival, scheduled for September 27, is canceled.
The Red Bank International Beer, Wine & Food Fest, scheduled for October 18, is canceled.
The Jersey City LGBTQ+ Pride Festival, originally scheduled for August 22, is canceled.
The Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival, originally scheduled for August 15 is canceled. The festival will return next year, on August 21, 2021.
The XPoNential Music Festival in Camden, originally scheduled for July 31-Aug 2, is canceled.
The 38th annual New Jersey Lottery Festival of Ballooning, originally scheduled for July 24–26, is canceled. The festival will return next year, on July 23–25, 2021.
The Maplewoodstock Music & Art Festival, originally scheduled for July 11–12, is canceled.
The Rock, Ribs and Ridges Festival in Augusta, originally scheduled for June 27–28, is rescheduled to June 26–27, 2021.
The NJ Beer Festival Aboard the Battleship in Camden, originally scheduled for June 20, is rescheduled to November 7.
The Princeton Festival, originally scheduled for June 6–27, is now a digital performance series called Virtually Yours featuring opera streaming, artist videos, lectures, workshops and live performances all for free from June 1–28.
The Maplewood-South Orange Book Festival, originally scheduled for June 5–6, is postponed to September 25–26. The festival will now be virtual.
Special Olympics New Jersey canceled all in-person activities, including training, competition, and fundraising events, through June 30, as well as the 2020 Summer Games, scheduled for June 5–7 at The College of New Jersey.
Michael Arnone’s Crawfish Fest in Augusta, originally scheduled for May 29–31, is canceled. The festival will return next year, on May 21–23, 2021.
TEDxAsburyPark, originally scheduled for May 2, is postponed until Spring 2021 at the Two River Theater.
The Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market, originally scheduled for April 4–5, is rescheduled to August 1–2.
The New Jersey Horror Con & Film Festival, originally scheduled for March 27–29, is canceled. The festival will return next year, on March 26–28, 2021.
The Fest for Beatles Fans in Jersey City, originally scheduled for March 27–29, is rescheduled to October 9–11. Read our 2017 story about the festival here.
The Montclair Literary Festival was originally scheduled for March 25 to 29, 2020. The main festival day is rescheduled to September 12.
At the Shore
Ocean City’s annual Night in Venice boat parade, originally scheduled for July 18, is canceled.
The 2020 Stone Pony Summer Stage series is canceled.
The Wildwoods’ New Jersey State Barbecue Championship & Anglesea Blues Festival, originally scheduled for July 10–12 is canceled. The festival will return next year, on July 9-11, 2021.
The Jersey Shore Restaurant Week scheduled for June 12–21 is now a take-out only event. All special events associated with the event have been postponed, including the Chefs Invitational, on October 1; the BBQ, Beer and Country on October 10; and the Bourbon, Bacon and Blues on October 17.
The Craft Beer, Music & Crab Festival, scheduled for August, has been canceled.
The Atlantic City Beer and Music Festival, originally scheduled for April 3–4, is canceled. The festival will return next year, on April 9–10, 2021.
The National Marbles Tournament in Wildwood, originally scheduled for June 22–25, is canceled. Held annually since 1922, the tournament has only been canceled two other times, in 1944 and 1945, during World War II.
The Cape May Hops Festival, originally scheduled for June 20, is canceled.
The Barefoot Country Music Fest in Wildwood, originally scheduled for June 19–21, is rescheduled to June 18–20, 2021.
The Wildwood Airshow scheduled for June 5–7 is canceled.
The Wildwood Beer Fest scheduled for June 13 is canceled.
The Cape May Music Festival, originally scheduled for May 24–June 12, is rescheduled as a music series with dates extending from mid-July to November.
Postponed Events
The Sourland Mountain Festival, typically held in June, is postponed. Date TBA.
Shad Fest, originally scheduled for April 25–26, is postponed. Date TBA.
The Spring in Tuckahoe Craftsmen & Home Event, originally scheduled for April 4–5, is postponed. Dates TBA.
Hoboken Literary Weekend, originally scheduled for April 3–5, is postponed. Dates TBA.
The SOMA Film Festival, originally scheduled for March 18–22, is postponed until Fall 2020. Date TBA.
