NJ Hall of Fame Unveils 2014 Inductees

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, 11-time NBA All Star Patrick Ewing and actor James Gandolfini top the list of this year’s New Jersey Hall of Fame inductees.

This year’s induction ceremony, slated for November 13 at the Asbury Park Convention Center, is likely to be an emotional one, thanks to the recognition of Park Ridge-raised Gandolfini. The three-time Emmy Award winner, known for his role as Tony Soprano in HBO’s The Sopranos, died in June 2013.

This year’s inductees also include former governor James Florio; influential chef Alice Waters; jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie; literary figure Dorothy Parker; activist Elizabeth Cady Stanton; union leader Peter J. McGuire; NFL executive Howard Katz; and the members of the Shirelles, the pioneering girl group from Passaic.

The NJHOF also is honoring Holocaust survivor Maud Dahme with the 2014 Unsung Hero Award. Born in the Netherlands, Dahme serves on the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education.

Since 2008, the NJHOF has honored individuals with strong connections to the Garden State who have made notable contributions to society. Among the 80 previous inductees are Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Thomas Edison and Toni Morrison. Last year’s class included born-and-raised Jerseyans such as Whitney Houston and Joe Piscopo as well as transplants like make-up mogel Bobbi Brown.

In addition to the Class of 2014, three recent inductees—former football Giants head coach Bill Parcells, actor Alan Alda and the members of Springsteen’s E Street Band—who were unable to attend a previous ceremony, will officially be inducted in November.
