Picnic, the Restaurant, is Coming Back

During its brief lifetime (2010-2013), chef Christine Nunn's Fair Lawn restaurant, Picnic, won accolades, including a spot on NJM's annual Top 25. This afternoon she will announce that she will open Picnic on the Square, in Ridgewood, in mid-August.

Picnic on the Square will be located at 26 Wilsey Square.

"It will be a fine-dining BYO, with prix fixe and a la carte menus," she said. "It will be classic Picnic, me being me, doing my thing—twists on classic American and French dishes. Top-quality ingredients. A lot of sweet/savory combinations in individual dishes and lots of veggies.

"The menu will change weekly. I’m not calling it farm-to-table or fresh-local-seasonal, because those things shouldn’t be a trend, that’s just the natural and best way to put a menu together. Always has been.

"I’m also determined," she said, "to bust this thing that chefs have about not busting the menu. The menu is not some sacred text. I’ll be in the kitchen and will be happy to come out and talk to anybody about whatever dietary restrictions they might have. It’s going to be a fun place."

Nunn, 50, added that she will retain the title of executive chef of Grange in Westwood.
