Perhaps it’s coincidence, but several paint companies have named a calming, neutral tone their color of the year. Sherwin-Williams announced that Alabaster—neither stark nor overly warm—is its top color. “It provides an oasis of calmness, spirituality and a less-is-more visual relief,” says Jackie Jordan, Sherwin-Williams’s director of color marketing. Meanwhile, New Jersey-based Benjamin Moore was even more minimal, naming Simply White its top hue. “The color white is timeless and transcendent,” says creative director Ellen O’Neill.
Glidden, yet another paint company, named Cappucino White its trendiest color, calling it a delicate, creamy neutral that creates a peaceful calm in any space, according to senior color marketing manager Dee Schlotter. “It promotes wellness, purity, mindfulness, balance, privacy and peace.”
