Local Boy Makes Good

His band was discovered in a radio talent search. Jon Bon Jovi and his mates have since sold 100 million albums. They may be gazillionaires, but they’re regular Jersey gazillionaires.

So Jersey, in fact, that Bon Jovi once cited another Jersey guy as a career role model. “I look at someone like Sinatra, who toured until he was 80 and made 60 movies,” he said. “That would be a great life to have.”

This guy is ambitious, comfortable enough in his own skin to jump from music to TV to film, and back to the band. Most important, he’s true to New Jersey. Here’s why we dig him:

>> Dated actress Diane Lane, but married Dorothea Hurley, a Sayreville War Memorial High School classmate. They live with their four children not far from where they grew up.

>> Brothers Anthony and Matthew, who still go by the original Bongiovi surname, have cool careers too. Matthew, Jon’s former road manager, opened Elements the Lounge, an ultracool club/restaurant in Sea Bright. Anthony’s production company filmed the concert video 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can’t Be Wrong.

>> In 2001, awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Monmouth University.

>> Owns the Philadelphia Soul, an Arena Football League team. But even Washington crossed the Delaware.
