We’re the Top

Attitude. That’s what we love about this cheeky little T-shirt from the ubertrendy Manhattan shop Olive and Bette’s.

This is the boutique that gets New York Post Page 6 attention for its sassy little tees. When actor Jude Law was in the news for sleeping with his nanny, the T-shirt du jour was I Want To Be Your Nanny (and nanny Daisy Wright actually bought one). More recent sentiments included Free Katie (Holmes) when she got engaged to Tom Cruise and Mission Accomplished when her pregnancy was announced.

The New Jersey Charm School shirt, first introduced four years ago, is perennially sold out. All those tourists from all those big, square states apparently think it’s oh-so-clever. It’s the Sopranos influence, says the store’s founder, Stacey Pecor. Local customers love it so much that when it was out of stock they demanded—nicely, of course—its return. (The supersoft cotton shirt, $36, available at oliveandbettes.com, comes in carrot, fuchsia, navy, red, and white.)

“It’s funny, it’s fun, and it says something about the person wearing it,” says Pecor of the shirt. “Confidence. That always makes people look better than anything else.”

Confidence. Attitude. Either way, we’re charmed.
