The 70-mile D&R Canal State Park provides a linear path for beginner paddlers and long-distance kayak enthusiasts. Rent at the Canoe & Kayak Rental in Princeton or Griggstown, open April to November and launch from the concessions’ private docks. The Cranford Canoe Club, once an 18th-century private club, is now town owned and open to the public. A ride down the spring-fed Rahway River offers a plethora of wildlife, including turtles, muskrats, deer, and egrets. The easygoing experience attracts first timers.
