9 Outdoor Fitness Classes To Keep You Moving All Summer

Whether your plans find you at home or down the shore, let fresh air and sunshine motivate you to stay fit and have fun all summer long.

Wellness Walks/Wellness Talks
Hamilton

What: A wellness class for both body and life geared toward mature adults. Each class throughout the summer will focus on a different facet of aging well.
Where: Grounds for Sculpture.
When: June 2, 16 and 30, with more dates in July and August, 9:30 a.m.
Cost:
$10 per class; price includes guided walk, light breakfast, and a workshop or demonstration). Free to residents of Trenton Center East and West, and members of Stoneking Physical Therapy and Wellness Centers.

Family Yoga at Military Park
Newark

What: Find your “Om” alongside the little ones in your life with a free family yoga class sponsored by Lotus Yoga. One of many free fitness classes held in Military Park throughout the year. Others include Zumba, Tai Chi Kung, Ping Pong, and Cardio Classes.
Where: Military Park in Newark.
When: Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. throughout the summer.
Cost: Free; must provide your own mat/supplies.

Outdoor Fitness Center
Long Valley

What: CrossFit lovers rejoice, this novel “OutDoor” Training concept consists of 1,200 square feet of outdoor fitness space and equipment that offers endless training possibilities for strength, cross training and even cardio.
Where: Z.S. Fitness, Valley Village Professional Center, Long Valley.
When: Daily.
Cost: Price of Z.S. Fitness gym membership.
RSVP: No pre-registration required, get your outdoor cross training on any time, weather permitting.

Adult Fitness Playgrounds
Teaneck

What: In an effort to participate in first lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign, Teaneck has funded top of the line fitness equipment from URBANIX for both Brooks and Phelps Parks.
Where: Brooks Park and Phelps Park in Teaneck.
When: Daily.
Cost: Free.
RSVP: No pre-registration required, it’s a playground after all!

Free Weekly Fitness Classes
Hoboken

What: A wide variety of classes sponsored by a different fitness studio each week. Some highlights include Family Hip-Hop (June 6- this one’s family friendly!), Baby Boot Camp (June 27), and Boxing (July 11).
Where: Pier A Park, Hoboken.
When: Monday nights from 7-8:00 p.m.
Cost: Free.
RSVP: Pre-registration not required, but class descriptions vary so we recommend planning ahead.

Morning Fitness Classes on the Pier
Wildwood

What: Wake up for a different burn every morning this summer. Sunday, Yoga; Monday, Yogalates; Tuesday, Cardio Pump; Wednesday, Cardio Workout/Aerobics; Thursday & Saturday, Cardio Kickboxing; Friday, Pilates.
Where: Wildwood Crest Beach Pier (cross street at Heather Road).
When: 8:30 a.m. daily beginning June 25 through August 24.
Cost: $5 per person per class; a punch card for any 12 classes can be purchased for $50.
RSVP: No pre-registration required.

Stroller Strides
Mt. Laurel

What: A fun and interactive fitness program for moms and their babies. Moms can strengthen and tone, get their hearts pumping with power walking, and do it all while incorporating the stroller and outdoor environment into their workout. Friendly for any fitness level.
Where: Mondays and Wednesdays at Birchfield Park; Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at Freedom Park.
When:
Ongoing, 9 or 9:30 a.m.
Cost: Single class passes cost $15, or try an unlimited membership for $55 a month.
RSVP: Pre-registration recommended, not required. Tip: arrive 10 minutes early, as some classes leave the meeting spot for a power walk early on.

Boot Camp on the Beach
Sea Isle City

What: Fun and active boot camp on the beach to kick you into gear. Stay active throughout the summer and let the morning sunrises over the water fuel your workout.
Where: 45th St. Beach.
When: Preseason, Saturdays at 8 a.m.; Summer, Monday-Saturday 8 a.m. until September 7.
Cost: Walk-In $10; $90 for a 10-pack.
RSVP: Pre-registration not required for this butt-kicking boot camp.

Yoga on the Bay
Seaside Heights

What: Unwind after a morning at the beach twice a week with afternoon or evening yoga classes throughout the summer. Thursday night classes are bound to include some gorgeous sunsets, free of charge.
Where: Hiering Avenue Beach, Seaside Heights (also offered in Lavallette and Seaside Park, prices vary by location).
When: Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m., Thursdays at 7 p.m., May-September.
Cost: $10 per class, plus $1 to park.
RSVP: Pre-registration not required.
