Spring is a time of transformation. With temperatures on the rise, and landscapes blooming back to life; the new season brings fresh air, and a time of rebirth across the east coast. Homeowners and business owners alike are looking to make changes, improvements and tackle projects that remained dormant during the winter months.
In the landscape and construction industry, this means the phones are ringing and everyone is eager to get outdoors. As the ground finally thaws and buds are surfacing, everything from preparing gardens, to installing new plantings, to building new outdoor living spaces and swimming pools are underway.
While winter is a great time of year to plan ahead, it is never too late to begin the design process. For many new clients who are just beginning the landscape design process, they are often surprised at the amount of time it truly takes from start to finish. Having an understanding of the process of design and build, before you begin, helps to set more realistic expectations.
Jobs begin with the initial site analysis. Scheduling a consultation with a landscape architect (some companies will offer complimentary consultations) will help you to understand your land, your options, your budget, and set up the realistic guidelines for the project you have in mind.
From there, permits may need to be filed with the town. Concept plans are drawn up, and detailed plans will need to be created. Depending on the size of the project, this can take time. This stage should not be rushed, in order to make sure nothing comes as a surprise or an upset during the construction phase.
Depending on your budget and the company you work with, 3-D drawings can be created to help give homeowners a more hands on feel and detailed view of what is to come.
Once plans are finalized, construction can begin. Again, depending on the size of the project, as well as unforeseen site conditions and weather, the time frame for construction will vary.
In the end, the completion of the project and a new outdoor space to enjoy.
