New Book On DIY Yoga Is a Breath of Fresh Air

The comical prompts will help the benefits of practicing yoga sink in both on and off the mat.

If you’re looking to deepen your yoga practice, give Brian Leaf’s The Teacher Appears: 108 Prompts to Power Your Yoga Practice a read. These prompts—a mix of comical challenges, journaling opportunities and inspirational quotes from professional yogis—will help the benefits of practicing yoga sink in both on and off the mat. In fact, you don’t even have to do yoga to benefit from the practical, positive messages within this book.

A yoga instructor himself, Leaf is a devotee of Swami Kripalvananda, the master of kundalini yoga, a type of yoga focused on purifying the chakras. Leaf, a New Jersey native, also has a masters degree specialized in yoga and Ayurveda, an Indian mind-body health system. He is currently the director of The New Leaf Learning Center, a standardized test tutoring center in Massachusetts, and the author of two other books, Misadventures of a Garden State Yogi and Misadventures of a Parenting Yogi.

In The Teacher Appears, Leaf suggests that readers use this book as a guide to mindful living and take it with them everywhere. Here are four of our favorite prompts to try this week:

When you want to get creative:
