After the Thanksgiving food coma and Black Friday shopping hangover, we will all need a change of pace. Stroll the streets of your local downtown on Small Business Saturday (November 26) for a more relaxed holiday shopping spree full of discounts.
Launched in 2010, Small Business Saturday has become a day for communities state and nationwide to support their local merchants. Whether you’re searching for home décor, accessories or a present for your pet, many Jersey towns bursting with small businesses are marking down price tags.
Turn the day into a full festive celebration in Haddonfield. Downtown shops here will have sales the entire weekend, as well as musical performances from noon until 3 pm, plus horse-drawn carriage rides. Shop small with Curvy Girl Consignment, offering a $10 gift card for every $100 spent; Duffy’s Fine Chocolates will discount 15 percent off all purchases; and Sandy Banks Boutique is taking 30-70 percent off storewide.
Spend your weekend perusing Red Bank businesses offering holiday promotions. Enjoy free parking all weekend and free shopping bags for patrons.
Skip department store lines in Upper Montclair with discounts throughout the shopping district.
Downtown Hammonton’s sales include 25 percent off at SaDee’s Clothing Boutique, $5 off every gallon of paint at LynKris Hardware and 20 percent off select merchandise at Bow Wow Boutique. When you’re done scoring shopping discounts, dine at local restaurants in Hammonton, with deals and samples at establishments such as Tales of the Olives, Casciano Coffee Bar & Sweetery and Kitchen 19.
Other towns supporting the shop-small movement this holiday season include Madison, Maplewood, Chester and Summit. Look out for local markdowns in your town and use the hashtags #ShopSmall and #SmallBizSat to promote small-business shopping during the holidays.
