The Diabetes Foundation believes that no one should go through their journey alone.

Since 1990, the Mahwah-based foundation has provided free and affordable access to tools and resources to help people throughout the state manage diabetes—during this November’s National Diabetes Month and all year long.

Today, 1 in 10 people are living with diabetes. To offset that number and help people manage their symptoms earlier, the foundation encourages diabetes screenings.

“The role of the agency is to make sure that nobody ends up without the resources and tools, because we see every day how managing that blood sugar can help,” says Ginine Cilenti, the foundation’s executive director.

The foundation offers educational resources, community support, financial assistance, and guidance on decisions about insurance, doctors, medication and supplies. “I really believe that every person should have the opportunity to be able to be healthy,” Cilenti says.

She says the community can support the work of the organization through volunteering or making a donation that goes directly to providing care to individuals.
