A slew of Garden Staters are showing their Jersey grit—and athletic prowess—at the Paris Olympics, and several have snagged gold and silver medals.

On Saturday, August 10, New Jersey’s own Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, of Dunellen, nabbed her second gold medal of the week, in the U.S. women’s 4×400 relay. The win came just two days after the 25-year-old track and field star won gold in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, breaking her own world record with a time of 50.37 seconds. McLaughlin-Levrone, who attended Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains, had previously broken the world record at the end of June at the Olympic trials.

In swimming, two Morris County natives—Jack Alexy, 21, and Nic Fink, 31—won big. Alexy, who grew up in Mendham and went to the Delbarton School in Morristown, won one gold and one silver medal. Morristown’s Fink, who went to the Pingry School in Basking Ridge, won one gold and two silvers. On a personal note, Fink’s wife, Melanie Margalis Fink (a former Olympian herself) is pregnant with the couple’s first child.
