Goodman’s Deli in Berkeley Heights
STYLE
Located in a strip mall, this classic Jewish delicatessen boasts old-school charm and table seating.
THE SCOOP
A Jersey staple since 1943, Goodman’s Deli was originally located in Elizabeth, but has been in its Berkeley Heights location for more than 20 years. Chicago native Don Parkin has owned the deli since 2010.
THE MENU
With old-school Jewish-deli vibes, Goodman’s offers a wide assortment of soups, egg dishes and breakfast specials alongside classic sandwiches like hot pastrami on rye. The meat is thinly sliced, yet bursting with the right blend of spices and fatty flavor, served with a container of spicy brown mustard for authentic taste. Enjoy alongside thick potato latkes with a side of applesauce, or a hot bowl of matzo ball soup.
Then, pair any deli option with something audacious from the deli’s Chicago-style menu, like a classic Vienna beef Chicago dog topped with neon-green relish, mustard, tomato slices, and an entire pickle spear. Or just skip the pastrami and try an Italian beef sandwich with hot or sweet peppers, preferably dipped in au jus.
HEADS UP
Be sure to add a blueberry or cherry cheese dessert knish for only $7.45.
