JERSEY GIRL CAFÉ
731 Route 33, Hamilton
Hours: Mon–Fri, 7:30 am–6 pm; Sat, 7:30–4 pm; Sunday, 9 am–4 pm.
Style: You order from the cashier, then sit down at a table. While your food is being prepared, you can enjoy the free wi-fi or take in the Jerseycentric photos and decor—vintage album covers from Bruce, Basie, Sinatra, Bon Jovi, the Smithereens and more.
Don’t Miss: The complicated menu can be boiled down to two words: anything goes. Not only are breakfast and lunch served all day, but each of the 11 breakfast sandwiches can be ordered on three kinds of bread or as a wrap, a quesadilla or a Jersey wrap—toasted ($3.99 to $5.99). The Jersey Girl gourmet section of the menu has 15 lunch items ranging from grilled salmon to apple and brie with berry mayo, each available as a sandwich, wrap, Jersey wrap, or topping a rice bowl ($6.99). To any of these you can add eight different sides, ranging from traditional breakfast meats to bread slathered with Nutella ($1-$2) and six different cooked veggies (tomato, zucchini, spinach, etc.) at no charge. Any of the nine deli sandwiches ($6.99) can be ordered with 10 different spreads at no charge. Like the spreads, the daily soup specials are housemade. The only item not available after 11 am is cinnamon French toast ($4.99), which can be ordered with grilled pineapple (add $1.49) and chocolate chips (99 cents).
Heads Up: The show-stopping dessert is the Hamilton Square, a huge, brownie-like marvel of chocolate fudge, peanut butter and Rice Krispies that costs $2.34 and is gluten-free.
The Scoop: Chef/owner Kathy Rana has a catering background, and still does parties and events off-premise or in the cafe. She also holds monthly cooking classes ($40-$60) and expects to open a second Jersey Girl in Hamilton Marketplace later this year.Click here to leave a comment
