Back Bay Ale House
Atlantic city
800 North New Hampshire Avenue
609-449-0006

Open: Lunch and dinner, daily

Price: $$

Style: Sea-shanty ambience in a weathered Victorian next to the Atlantic City Aquarium.

The Scoop: The inland waterfront location is the main attraction. Grab an outdoor table for a view across boat-filled Gardner’s Basin toward the Borgata towers, Harrah’s and the Golden Nugget. Great sunsets, too.

The Menu: Openers include jerk chicken wings or shrimp, red- or white-sauce mussels, and Old Bay chips and cheese. The cream of crab soup is buttery good and thick with meat. The seafood Cobb has chunks of shrimp and crab; the Cali Cobb features grilled chicken and guacamole-ranch dressing. Specialties include New England lobster roll, JuJu shrimp, and a seafood sampler (pictured) with two cod fillets, fried shrimp and a crab cake. Landlubbers can opt for burgers or steaks (under $23). Beer selection includes two ales brewed for Back Bay by Flying Fish. There’s a kids’ menu.

Heads Up: At sunset, patrons on the upstairs deck get a free 2-ounce cocktail. Plenty of free parking. Check website for nightly specials.
