STYLE

Named after Novelty Grill & Bar, a former Newark hot spot, this family-friendly, 1950s-inspired burger joint blends retro décor with a full-service bar.

THE SCOOP

Burgers are cooked sous vide, then seared on a griddle. They’re fashioned from a house blend of flat iron, brisket and short rib from American Black Angus beef. All patties are made daily from whole cuts of meat.

THE MENU

In addition to several juicy burgers with lots of toppings, Novelty serves 100 percent natural beef hot dogs, a crispy chicken sandwich on a brioche bun, and hand-cut french fries. Fries come plain, disco style, or loaded with bacon and cheese. There are also turkey and veggie burgers, as well as ice cream offerings, including shakes and root beer floats. Soda choices feature throwbacks such as black cherry and birch beer. Those of age can get a real beer or a cocktail.

HEADS UP

Novelty Burger is right around the corner from the Prudential Center, so check the arena’s event schedule before stopping in. Those attending a game or concert may show up early. If this small, cozy establishment fills up, its sister restaurant, Mercato Tomato Pie, is right next door.
