South Street Social Joins Morristown’s Craft Beer Bar Scene

The owners of Sona Thirteen redesigned and reopened the place as South Street Social to become worthy exemplars of Morristown’s booming craft beer scene.

South Street Social
Morristown
13 South Street
973-267-1575

Open: Lunch and dinner, Tues-Sat

Price: $

Style: Often-packed bar that serves above-average pub food. The space is long and narrow with exposed-brick walls, high-top tables and a chalkboard listing beers on tap, usually including several local brews. Live music is offered on weekends.

The Scoop: After 10 years as Sona Thirteen, the owners closed the bar in January 2018 to update it to one that could hold its own in Morristown’s bustling craft-beer bar scene. Two months later, they debuted South Street Social.

The Menu: Start with one of seven “sociables”: appetizers such as crispy chicken wings, Thai mussels, tuna ceviche and beef sliders. Taco novelties include coq au vin, Hawaiian duck and Korean short rib. You can try all three in a taco trio (pictured above) for $14. The flatbreads are good, too, and come three ways: with mozzarella and marinara, duck confit and cheeses, or topped with shrimp and pesto. All sandwiches—including the $14 South Street Burger, topped with cheddar and bacon; and the Savoy Social, with balsamic-marinated grilled chicken, braised onions and Havarti—come with french fries. There are no desserts.

Heads Up: It can get packed on evenings and weekends, so go for lunch if you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere.
