UNO MÁS IN ALLENDALE

Convivial, clamorous, Mexico City–style taqueria with authentic, flavor-packed tacos and more. Sidewalk seating.

THE SCOOP

Local brothers Dan and Joe Gray co-own busy, buzzy Uno Más with Nutley-raised chef Adam Rose, the Mexican-food maven behind Montclair’s lamentedly shuttered Villalobos.

THE MENU

Uno Más focuses on antojitos, Mexican appetizers, sized for sharing. Often ordered are the guacamole, open-face tlayuda (tortilla heaped with chorizo) and tostones (fried plantains). Tacos feature sprightly fillings like birria (chili-stewed beef) and lush Barnegat scallops. Tacos are $15 for two, $20 for three. Big plates include grilled skirt steak, pan-seared snapper, and short rib enchiladas with mole sauce. For dessert, cinnamon-tinged churros beckon. Weekend brunch brings Mexican spins on avocado toast, pancakes, steak and eggs, and even a smoked-salmon platter (tostadas replace bagels).

HEADS UP

Uno Más pours house-made mocktail mixers (citrusy, tropical or spicy) for “mockaritas”—or, you can bring your own tequila.
