Wally’s in Surf City

STYLE

Family-owned LBI favorite, bright and beachy, with large dining areas spaced so each has its own vibe. One offers a super-cute coffee bar; another, patio views and larger tables. Dine outdoors in front, facing the bustle of beachgoers on foot, or in back, on a large, covered patio for a quieter meal.

THE SCOOP

A local go-to, Wally’s has been serving the area for more than 50 years. With new ownership in 2014 came a new menu—gluten free, vegan and family friendly—while still offering longtime favorites.

THE MENU

Get the crumb cake! Made in-house and available for takeout, Wally’s version is sublime—moist, buttery, with just the right amount of powdered-sugar crumbs. Breakfast specialties include Southern biscuits with pork sausage gravy and a standout burrito. Lunch highlights include spicy Buffalo cauliflower and a dynamite bar pizza, white, topped with fresh arugula. Sesame-studded, rare Ahi tuna slices piled with Asian slaw and sriracha-lime aioli are served on a fresh brioche bun. At dinner, avocado egg rolls make a great start. All desserts are made in house. Top pick? That crumb cake—as is, or buttered and grilled.
