A Little Bit Funky: Rose and Wilde Jeans

Young NJ entrepreneur re-imagines vintage jeans, overalls, denim jackets...

Rose & Wilde
Rose & Wilde can customize your own denim jeans, as modeled here by designer Angelina Rose.

Rose & Wilde, an up-and-coming used and vintage clothing collective and lifestyle brand, was founded in 2017 by Angelina Rose of Roxbury. This entrepreneurial 19-year-old hand-picks pre-loved, high-quality denim clothing from vintage shops, thrift stores and non-profit businesses like Market Street Mission, Goodwill and the Salvation Army. Her mission is to put dollars back into the community to help feed, house, educate and rehabilitate local residents in need.

“Each piece of clothing in our collection makes a difference in the world,” Angelina tells me. “We wash our pre-loved inventory and recreate each piece to be wearable, eclectic and fun. If you love the look of retailers like Anthropologie, Free People and Urban Outfitters, you’ll like our bohemian, retro and chill vibes.”

Crafty since an early age, Angelina took a sewing class at age 12 and was inspired. After working as a receptionist in a waxing salon in early 2017, she quit the job and invested her final paycheck in her upstart business and started scooping up all the pre-owned, well-made denim clothing she could find. Then the real work began: redesigning each unique piece with fringe, pom-poms, patches (from around the world, but some snagged locally at JoAnn Fabric), hand-embroidery and distressing.

Today Rose & Wilde has clients as far away as South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, with solid business across the U.S. as well. “My Texas client is one of my biggest supporters. She buys from me all the time and even orders gift cards for her friends,” says the designer.

Want to commission your own custom denim piece? Or have an old pair of jeans or denim overalls brought back to life with funky embellishments?  Angelina says she can “renovate” any piece.

“Rose & Wilde seeks to inspire and empower the unconventional,” the young designer says. “We are the drifters and dancers, sun worshippers and risk takers. Our brand has dramatically grown because people admire the change we make, the uniqueness of the brand, and the nonconformist lifestyle we represent. We encourage our customers to follow their hearts, break the rules, and unapologetically be themselves.”
