Need a beauty-routine revamp? Pamper yourself with Beauty From the Inside Out, the latest book from makeup mogul Bobbi Brown. The feel-good manual offers Brown’s best beauty advice on everything from cosmetics to confidence, infused with her mantra—makeup should enhance, not cover up.
Brown started her career in beauty with her lipstick line, Bobbi Brown Essentials, in 1991. In 2007, she opened her first freestanding Bobbi Brown Cosmetics store and training studio in Montclair, where she lives. Brown served as chief creative officer of her company, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, until December 2016.
“I designed 10 brown-based shades in a color collection that was creamy, matte, odorless, and could be mixed and blended to create unique, individual hues,” she wrote in a farewell blog post on Refinery 29 in January. “It was a simple concept, but one that seemed revolutionary at the time.”
Although she said good-bye to the company, the beauty queen’s reign isn’t over: Beauty From the Inside Out—her ninth book—is out April 18.
Divided into two sections, Beauty from the Inside and Beauty from the Outside, this guide emphasizes that beauty really does go much deeper than the surface.
Brown first dives into healthy eating or, as she calls it, beauty food, and how it impacts the way you feel. The book’s vivid photos of produce, nutrient charts and recipes arm you with valuable nutrition knowledge.
If you’re looking for motivation to get moving, chapter two has you covered with a workout guide and instructional photos.
Then it’s time to wind down with the Be Zen section, where you’ll learn about the power of breathing and beauty rest.
The confidence chapter (my favorite) highlights seven inspiring women including beauty gurus, such as the co-founder of the Beautified app; a 68-year old model; actress Olivia Munn as well as Muhammad Ali’s daughter, Laila.
Skincare tips and what to do with that arsenal of serums, oils, balms and exfoliants come next. Get serious home spa inspiration and learn about solutions for common skin issues. Ready for a trendy spa treatment? Brown explains the ins-and-outs of favorites like CoolSculpting.
Chapter seven offers a refresher course in beauty application basics, which nicely complements the next chapter, Mix Up Your Look. Brown suggests that once you’re confident with products, get creative and try things like statement brows or a bold lip. Tons of before-and-after photos of fresh looks serve as your handbook.
Brown’s beauty wisdom paired with tips from fitness, skin and health experts is just the beauty boost you need. Treat mom to a copy for Mother’s Day.
