Behind the Scenes: Photo Shoot for October Cover

If you loved the golden Fall Drives cover of our October issue, check out these out-take images from our photo shoot in Peapack-Gladstone...

Thanks to our readers for all the nice comments about our October issue, particularly the front cover photograph. For those of you who enjoy a behind-the-camera peek at magazine production, here’s a little insight…

NJ Monthly schedules photo shoots well in advance of each issue. In order to capture Somerset County during its fall foliage peak in time for our October 2012 issue, we actually had to photograph our models in October 2011. In fact, that gorgeous cover by photographer Cris Crisman was shot on a spectacular sunny morning, the day before the infamous Halloween snowstorm!

Tom Rossiter, owner of The Stable, Ltd. in Gladstone, graciously loaned us his 1963 baby-blue Corvette Stingray convertible for the day. Our models, decked out in fall finery from Neiman Marcus Short Hills (with hair and makeup by Meghan Glynn), were quite happy tooling around the back roads of Somerset County and, ultimately, driving down the hill at Natirar for the actual cover photo image.

The session concluded with a walk around the Gladstone Tavern, followed by a picnic-basket lunch at the New Gladstone Market. We all agreed, it was one of our more colorful photo shoots in memory…and I was proud to be the stylist that day.

Let’s hope the month of October ends on a warmer note this year!
