Old Bags Luncheon Attracts Style Divas and VIPs

Fashion designer Daniel Silverstein entertained the sold-out crowd of shoppers who snagged some amazing designer handbags in support of Jersey Battered Women's Service...

The scent of fine leather wafted through the air at Morristown’s Spring Brook Country Club this week. That’s when more than 200 handbag fans got weak in the knees as they ogled all the designer looks at the Old Bags Luncheon, organized by Morris County-based JBWS.

The annual fundraiser invites women to donate their pricey designer bags for a good cause and a tax deduction. Among those who contributed pretties were NBC’s chief meteorologist and fashionista, Janice Huff of Denville.

About 250 new and vintage handbags, evening clutches and totes were up for grabs during live and silent auctions…a great way to take home a bragworthy buy at a bargain price.

After lunch, patrons enjoyed an outlandishly fun presentation by designer Daniel Silverstein, who appeared on season two of NBC’s Fashion Star. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of technology, Silverstein has since launched his own brand that melds his personal design aesthetic with his innovative zero-waste design techniques.

Also in attendance was Mrs. New Jersey International, Lea Moelk, who had a grand time checking out all the buttery-soft leather handbags.

Event proceeds of about $60,000 will support Jersey Battered Women’s Service, a full-service, private, non-profit agency dedicated to the prevention of domestic violence.
