If you’re an Instagram fan, you might be among the more than 52,000 followers of the irrepressible Teggy French. She’s often likened to mid-century fashion models because of her affinity for oversized sunglasses and chic vintage clothing. In fact, this 37-year-old New Vernon resident just launched her own retro-inspired caftan line.

“The Very Teggy holiday caftan collection channels my favorite 1960s Palm Springs aesthetic,” she says. The former actress is also known for signature Fifi bow earrings by French & Ford. Her website showcases top fashion picks under $100, plus preppy-with-a-twist decor.

Out of the social media limelight, this trendsetting tastemaker, who enjoys a rather traditional homelife with an active toddler, is known as Alex Weichert. Back in 2014, when she first achieved widespread fame for her OOTD (outfit of the day) images, the entrepreneur chose Teggy French as her digital persona.

“It’s a mashup of my maiden name and middle name,” she explains.

Her website and Instagram feed convey a passion for fashion and an eclectic, elevated lifestyle on any budget. Even French’s posh living room is a high-low mix—a whimsical sofa with patterned fabric by Broome Street Studios, flanked by two hip Lucite end tables scored at Walmart. French’s interior-design chops were given a nod when Morristown Medical Center’s 2020 Mansion in May showhouse invited her to decorate a space.

“I think the key to happiness is imagining your best life and then thinking creatively to make it happen,” she says. “But this doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot. Discounted shopping is the best. I especially enjoy the thrill of the hunt at thrift shops.” She boasts of finding a Pucci designer dress “for five bucks.” How very Teggy.
