The bell will ring in championship boxing in Atlantic City this weekend with a card of local fighters, including local resident Justin Figueroa, for the main event at the Tropicana.

Larry Goldberg, founder of the popular sports site boxinginsider.com, stepped out of the media ring and into another aspect of the boxing world when he became a promoter. Goldberg came out swinging in his new role, racking up more New York events in 2023 than any other promoter, all of them sellouts.

After an absence of nearly a decade, boxing returned to the Jersey Shore in May 2024, when Goldberg—a 1997 Atlantic City High School grad—brought the sport he loves back to his hometown. He ushered AC’s first professional matchup in seven years to the Tropicana.

Atlantic City was no stranger to professional boxing; in the early-to-mid 1980s, it hosted more than 500 professional matches.

Goldberg’s commitment to the sport extends beyond the ring, as he donates portions of event-ticket sales to the Atlantic City Police Athletic League (PAL), where many well-known boxers got their starts.

Ticket’s for Saturday’s event can be found here.
