Newark Riots

(1967) The media, including this magazine, have been chronicling the 40th anniversary of Newark’s catastrophic summer of 1967. Unlike other cities that suffered major disturbances in the 1960s, Newark dates recent history not as pre-war and post-war, but as pre-riot and post-riot. Urban New Jersey, not just Newark, has never been quite the same since 1967, to the detriment of all its citizens.
