About Shahid Rahim Aziz
Dr. Shahid Aziz is one of few doctors performing orthognathic surgery almost daily. This surgery corrects bites in conjunction with orthodontics, and requires substantial recovery time. “For the first two months after surgery, the patient is my child,” Dr. Aziz tells parents. He is known as a kind, highly skilled surgeon who takes calls from patients 24/7.
Dr. Aziz also handles facial trauma and reconstruction cases at University Hospital in Newark and St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.
Having earned his dental degree from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and his medical degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Aziz now shares his expertise with the next generation of oral surgeons as a full professor at Rutgers University School of Dental Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Since co-founding the non-profit Smile Bangladesh (smilebangladesh.org) in 2006, Dr. Aziz and his team have repaired facial cleft deformities on almost 1,400 children and adults. “I became a surgeon to treat the neediest,” he says.
