About Maithili V. Rao

Dr. Maithili Rao and Dr. Ashish Khot pride themselves on bringing integrated care to patients at Advanced Care Oncology & Hematology Associates, one of the premier practices of its kind in New Jersey.

“We have created a unique setting for consulting and treating patients at four major medical centers as well as at our state-of-the-art outpatient sites,” Dr. Rao says. “Our patients see world-class practitioners and have navigators to coordinate their care. We treat patients holistically, meeting both clinical and emotional needs.” With on-site clinical pharmacists and oncology nurse specialists at all locations, patients can get chemotherapy, iron infusions and blood transfusions, and receive cutting-edge medical technology and laboratory services. The group also offers clinical trials, genetic counseling and testing, and palliative care services, enabling it to offer full 360-degree care.

Practice founder Dr. Rao has a special interest in breast and ovarian cancer, lymphoma, leukemia, and genetics. She delivers the most advanced, individualized, compassionate care possible while treating a full range of cancers. She also manages hematology issues in high-risk pregnancies and gives lectures on topics such as early detection and treatment of breast cancer, coagulation disorders and genetics at Morristown Medical Center.

Dr. Khot is an active attending faculty at Overlook Medical Center and Saint Barnabas Medical Center, where he regularly lectures and offers teaching rotations for residents and students in the department of medicine. He maintains a special interest in management of patients with urological malignancies, gastro-intestinal malignancies, thoracic oncology and various hematological diseases. Dr. Khot says, “With the vast amount of data available, we have implemented targeted patient education that allows patients to make informed decisions about their overall care; whether it is a new patient or someone coming to us for another opinion. We emphasize great communication between patients, their caregivers and all the physicians involved in patient care.”

The pair works in collaboration with Drs. Charlesse Pondt, Joshua Strauss, Ashish Shah, Ramsey Asmar, Nikki Bajaj, and Jessica Taff; nurse practitioners Marlene Schmitz-Pinkowsky, Edgar “Joed” La Chica, Cherry Rudge, Kari Sierant; and physician assistants Jessica Surloff and Jennifer Figueroa. A recently opened office in Hackettstown will provide patients there and in the surrounding areas of Western New Jersey with the same quality that the practice has provided thus far in the Morristown, Summit and Livingston areas.
