“What’s important to me is providing patients with the most current and highest level of oncologic care in a personalized way.” That’s how Dr. Andrew Bernstein—a board-certified hematologist and oncologist—characterizes his approach toward medicine and patient relationships.

In practice for more than 25 years, Dr. Bernstein specializes in breast, colon, and lung cancer—and his practice continues to grow. “I am fortunate to work with two highly trained and personable associates Dr. Vinodi Varki and Dr. Beata Pieczara,” says Dr. Bernstein. “We also have three exceptional nurse practitioners.” He has relocated and expanded his office to Riverdale. While still affiliated with Regional Cancer Care Associates and Chilton Medical Center—part of the Atlantic Health System—Dr. Bernstein remains an independent practitioner in the health-care community. “Maintaining this independence affords us the benefit of getting to know our patients and managing care based on their specific needs,” he says.

His 8,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility provides infusion services and precision oncologic treatments such as next-generation sequencing of tumors, which is a targeted therapy based on each patient’s particular cancer.

“I pursued oncology as a career because I find it tremendously rewarding to help people move forward to live a quality life, whenever possible, and not let their disease define them,” he says.

Dr. Bernstein is director of Medical Oncology at Chilton Medical Center. He completed his internship and was chief resident at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He also completed fellowships at Mount Sinai Medical Center and graduated from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine.
