About Debra Goldson-Prophete
With a primary focus on three areas—cardiovascular health, diabetes management and weight loss management—Dr. Debra Goldson-Prophete has been helping create a healthier community in South Orange and beyond for more than 20 years. Board certified in internal medicine, she offers routine and complex healthcare for adolescents and adults, with a keen determination to reveal the underlying causes of medical conditions. “My job is to put the pieces of the puzzle together so we can establish an overall plan that helps people regain their health—and their life,” she says. Patients appreciate her honesty and willingness to discuss major health concerns and to recommend realistic solutions. “Medical issues vary, but the answer to many health questions includes diet and exercise,” she says.
As her patients successfully lose weight and keep it off, they’ve requested safe ways to enhance their appearance and sense of well-being. “I track progress in their blood pressure and diabetes or cholesterol lab results, but they want to see progress in their mirrors,” says Dr. Goldson-Prophete. Her office now offers non-surgical body sculpting, along with Botox® and chemical peels. “People want their outside appearance to match how well they feel inside,” she says.
For this repeat New Jersey Monthly Top Doctor, teaching is a practice cornerstone. She educates patients to make informed medical decisions and become true partners in shaping their health. A clinical assistant professor at Rutgers NJ Medical School since 2002,
Dr. Goldson-Prophete advises residents to keep open minds and consider less obvious diagnoses.
