About Matthew H. Zornitzer
The intricate anatomy of the hand attracted Dr. Matthew Zornitzer to the field of orthopedics. The five-time New Jersey Monthly Top Doctor retains that passion, especially enjoying the opportunity to treat former teachers, classmates and neighbors from his hometown of Livingston.
Fellowship trained in hand, upper extremity surgery and microsurgery, Dr. Zornitzer is board certified in orthopedic surgery with the prestigious certificate of added qualifications in surgery of the hand. His areas of expertise include the treatment of complex elbow, wrist, and finger fractures; ligament injuries; and nerve compression disorders. Dr. Zornitzer uses minimally invasive techniques, including endoscopic carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel releases that require smaller incisions than in traditional open surgery. “With a smaller incision, there is less pain and minimal scarring, resulting in quicker recovery times,” he says. He also offers treatment for Dupuytren’s contracture, when indicated, with an in-office Xiaflex® injection that can save the patient a trip to the operating room.
Dr. Zornitzer finds it very gratifying to provide care for local athletes and restore their arm function to preinjury levels. “It is extremely rewarding to watch a gymnast vault again using her previously fractured wrist, or to have a javelin thrower compete after relieving nerve compression in his elbow,” he says. Dr. Zornitzer emphasizes that many conditions can be addressed nonoperatively and his attention to detail is crucial to developing a treatment plan with patients and their families.
